This is what happens...

...when Mom waits too long to buy dog food.

Yeah, looks gross right? Well it was actually really delicious! Mom got smart and dug through our box of doggie related things she's gotten free at local dog expos and such and came up with these:

It definitely tasted different than my usual Blue Buffalo but it wasn't so bad to have something new. The best part was this "Keen" stuff (on the left above). It's made by Honest Kitchen and it's a packet of dehydrated dog food.

A little weird at first but it tasted great. Mom mixed this powder with warm water and MMMM did it smell good!! I could see how it would be easy to bring on a road trip, to go camping, etc. because it doesn't take up any room. Mom says it's a smart buy too because it's made completely from human-grade products with minimal processing selected from fair-trade, sustainable and "green" suppliers in CA. It's even made here in San Diego!

It's a little bit more expensive than the food I eat now but it was still a nice little treat. What have you tried lately that was a pleasant surprise?

Friday Fun

I used to be a really cute, uncoordinated puppy too..

Now I'm so much more mature than all of this.

...No, not really! Happy Friday!

I'm a Big Bad Wolf

Do you ever write a post, think you click "Publish" and then wonder why no one has commented on your fabulous new blog about how adorable you looked on Halloween? Yep, us too.

Yesterday was a great day because I went to work with Mom...as part of her costume of course!

Every Little Red Riding Hood needs a Big Bad Wolf! Hope you had a great Halloween!

Kennel No. 5

It's not even Friday yet but I already have something funny to share with you. Have you seen the Brad Pitt ad for Chanel No. 5? Even if you haven't seen the ad, you may have seen the skit making fun of it on SNL this week. At any rate, we dogs had to get in on the fun too.

Go Chargers!

Sundays in our house are about watching football. Well, so are Thursday nights...and Monday nights...and the occasional Saturday...

No matter when we're watching though, we're always Charger fans. Always have been, always will be.

Where have we been?

See here's the thing about writing a dog blog...I have to get Mom's help to write it! I've had all these GREAT ideas but somebody has been too busy to be of any use. She seems to think that things like being in the busiest time of the year at work, studying for the LSAT and getting into a car accident are valid excuses for completely abandoning my writing career. For shame!

Well, a lot has happened since my Mom decided she liked a lot of things better than me so I won't try and shove them all down your throat at once. One thing at a time my friends...

First, if you follow us on Instagram you probably remember this adorable picture of me in my big, giant bed. If you don't follow us on Instagram...well then you should. Look us up @littlerockfish or just check out my pics by searching for #jacksblog.

Ok back to my story. This bed is To. Die. For. It's so perfectly soft without being too squishy, it has these great bolsters on the sides that I can cuddle up against, and it was only $40 at Costco. Everyone wins!

Considering I'm a 65-pound mutt and I still have thaaat much room to move around, you can tell it's a pretty big bed. Look, it's even big enough to share with your best friend!

What have you been up to since I've been gone? What is your new favorite thing?

Friday Fun: Happy Olympics!

Mom has been so eager to watch the Olympic opening ceremonies for weeks and it is finally here! Maybe now she will shut up about it. Maybe.

It seems Mom is not the only one excited. In the spirit of the games, our friends at Tagg posted this on Facebook:

And our friends at the Helen Woodward Animal Center are celebrating each of our individual talents with this image:

Are you looking forward to the Olympics? What is your favorite event?

Visiting Aunt Chelsea

Mom has visited Aunt Chelsea in Orange before but she's never taken me for an overnight visit. I finally got my chance a few weeks ago and I had such a great time. We helped her hang a shelf in the dining room then Mom and A.C. shared some wine and laughs. I mainly just laid...well, and smelled every inch of the house!

Sunday morning we got breakfast at this cool place called Kimmie's Coffee Cup. They had cute little tables outside for us and Mom even ordered me some bacon. YUM!!

These nice people let me lay under their table when I was full and sleepy.

I hope we get to see Aunt Chelsea again soon!

My Favorites: Kool Tool!

I am a very friendly boy and I always love meeting new people! Just the other day I met Sher who was nice enough to show me a Kool Tool - I love it! All you have to do is get it wet, wring it out, snap it and it's set to go. The best part is that it doesn't drip on my fur and I don't end up getting wet (and smelling like wet dog). Too good to be true? I thought so too!

Luckily Sher let me (and Mom and Dad) try one out and I am happy to report it's as good as they say. Check me out:

I know what you're thinking...it's starting to get seriously hot in San Diego and you might want a Kool Tool for yourself or your furry friend. Well luckily for you I have a coupon code for Kool Tool to share! Everybody wins!

Zip on over to the Kool Tool website and put in the coupon code "jack" to get 25% off for up to three of your own! You can thank me later :)

Bring your dog to work day!

About two weeks ago I was lucky enough to go to work with mom on Bring Your Dog to Work Day. She works in such a fun place!

Mostly I just laid in the corner and watched Mom work but I also got to meet lots of fun people and even run down the hall chasing my ball! It was a great day.

Have you ever gone to work with your human?

Who needs a bed?

In my house, I have three dog beds (plus the outside couch I've claimed). However, these days I'm doing this cool thing where I lay near my bed but not really on it...

What, is that weird?

Happy Father's Day!

Thanks Dad for all that you do! I love when we go to the beach...

I love when we cuddle...

I love when you give me baths...

And I even love when you dress me up and make me do stupid things...

As long as I'm with you, I'm a happy pup :) Thanks for being such a great Dad!

How to: De-Skunk a Dog

Yep, it happened. Mom's actually surprised it took as long as it did. I learned a very valuable lesson tonight: never chase the skunk in the yard. Mom learned an important one too: how to de-skunk a dog!

It started as such a simple night...Mom came home and picked me up to go hang out at Grandma and Grandpa's. I came in the house, ran right over to the backyard, and went outside to investigate the scratching I heard on the other side of the yard. I ran over there REALLY fast and Grandpa started yelling at me but I was just trying to get there as quick as possible so I could play with the furry black and white thing in the corner. Unfortunately that guy was NOT very nice and I ended up smelling...a lot. Whoopsie!

A quick Google search came up with the idea to use tomato juice to get rid of the smell and I quickly went into the bath.

My eyes were stinging really bad, as you can see in the picture above. I think maybe the little stinker sprayed me in my right eye and boy did that hurt! Luckily the tomato juice tasted good as it dripped off my face :) Oh and yes,  that's my grandmother on the floor drying me with a blow-dryer. Even when I do silly stuff like this they still take such good care of me!

I laid in my bed for a while and then Mom realized...the tomato juice only masked the smell for a little bit. Uh oh... back to Google we went. A little more digging and we found Paul Krebaum's recipe here. Perhaps the best way to remove skunk smell from dogs, it was a lifesaver! Here's the basic recipe:

16 oz. hydrogen peroxide
1/8 cup baking soda
1 tbsp liquid soap
About 12 oz. warm water

We used this all over my body but avoided my eyes because the hydrogen peroxide burns. We put it on and let it sit, lathered it up, and finally rinsed it off. I got dried...again!

Don't I look thrilled? Gee if I'd known what was going to come of this little adventure maybe I would have thought twice about it.

The new recipe really helped a lot and I'm finally starting to lose the smell. Mom thinks we may need to give me another bath tomorrow to really get rid of it completely but it's already soooo much better. I still smell a little funky but it's already a million times better. What's weird about the skunk smell is that it's different on your skin than in the air...it almost smells like oil and burning gasoline. Let's just say it's not good.

I hope you learned something valuable from my latest crazy adventure. I sure did!
