I love you!

I have learned some pretty good tricks over the last couple of years including saying goodbye, spinning in a circle, giving a high five, shaking hands, playing dead, and even standing on my hindlegs. Perhaps I should add a post of my many skills? Hmmm.

No matter what Mom has taught me, nothing matches Mischka's skills...check this out:

I have to set my goals much higher!

My Favorites: KONG

My mom's friend was asking the other day about how to stop their young dog from chewing. Since we have a bit of experience in this area I thought I'd share our advice!

I had a little bit of a chewing problem when I was younger. Just ask my Dad about the patio furniture or my Mom about her Kate Spade heels and you'll get quite the story. The problem is that as a puppy I didn't know any better. When we are young we need lots of attention, exercise and mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. When we are not getting these things we have to find a way to tell you we are missing something. We can't literally tell you with our words so we try to show you any way we can. Chewing is one way that certainly gets your attention!

One way to stop us from chewing on your things is to teach us how to enjoy chewing on our things. Give us fun toys, bring home new bones and reward us when we choose our own chewtoy over the handle of your handbag. It took my parents and I a while but we've found quite a few toys, bones and treats that distract me from chewing. Probably best of all is the KONG brand chew toys. Since I'm a big boy I need the Extra Large size KONG and I like it best when mom fills it will lots of treats that I have to work hard to get out.

I recommend mixing small treats, pieces of food and even rice in with peanut butter and then stuffing that thing as tight as possible. I know it doesn't sound good to you humans but I'm licking my lips just thinking about it. Give me a full KONG and I stay busy for a while. The rubbery material is thick enough that I can't actually chew it apart and the hunt to get out all of the filling wears me out mentally too!

Sound like it might help to break your chewing habit? You can get them at every pet store including Petco and Petsmart. Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Dad!

Yesterday was my dad's 26th birthday. He whined about getting old but I reminded him that in no time I will pass him up! We celebrated with some cake last night and even I got a special treat! :)

Dad's gift table, including a nice card from GGPa Bob and GGMa Norma!
Yum!!!

Now just remember...birthdays are about cake, not some silly number!

Now and Then - The Fire Hydrant

Writing about fire the other night gave mom a flashback to a picture she took the first day I came home. We walked all around the condo complex, sniffing everything possible and meeting lots of new friends. In that sense, nothing has changed. However, I think I've grown up just a bit in the two years since then...

If nothing else I have certainly learned to pose for pictures!

Fire!!!!!

Just as I was starting to brag about our gloriously sunny days, we got one afternoon of rain that spoiled all the fun. Perhaps I jinxed us?

Either way, mom and dad saw it as a great opportunity to try out the fireplace we have never used. Sure, it has always served as a wonderful backdrop for my beds but it has never, in the 2 1/2 years we have lived here, actually held a fire. This might seem odd for you humans but I never complained! I saw no need to go playing with such frightening ideas. *sigh* Nevertheless, mom and dad were determined to make use of the fireplace...Check out Dad's nifty headlamp used to make sure the flue was open:

Dad was insistent that I would really like the fire...

He even tried to give me a command to lay in front of it...

I eventually gave in and he was right, it did feel pretty good!

Still, this fireplace looks incomplete without my bed (and me) in front of it, doesn't it?
I made mom zoom in and show you the cute little frame that sits on the mantle, above my bed :)

While I know one afternoon of light drizzle does not compare to the many feet of snow some of you are experiencing, it was a great excuse to cuddle up indoors and sleep the day away!
