Happy Howl-O-Ween!!

Dad jokes with me all the time, "Jack, when are you gonna get a job?" Usually I just meet him with a blank stare but today I was lucky enough to go to work -- with mom! I got to be the Scooby-Doo to her Daphne!! Check us out:

National University System Headquarters in La Jolla :)
Mom even made me my very own Scooby-Doo tag!
I got to see Aunt Ashley as a hippie...
...and meet Brittany the kitty cat
I growled at this guy in the hall...oops! He was scary!
I quickly learned that if I sat and stared at mom she had treats in her bag for me!
I finally had enough bully sticks, play time and schmoozing that I needed a break.
Check me out all comfy in Mom's cubicle
I'm not sure why you humans complain about work all the time because I had a blast! Thanks to Grandma for picking me up at dropping me off at home too -- three hours was just about my limit for the office.

Tonight we're hosting some of Mom and Dad's friends for Monday Night Football. Stay tuned, I will have plenty more pics after that! Stay safe tonight :)

Friday Fun

Mom gives me a crunchy milkbone every day before she leaves the house and it is sooo good! Sometimes I use it in place of my tongue to stick it out at her and make her laugh :)

Happy Friday!!

While Grandma's away...

...the dog will play!
Grandma and Grandpa's bed
The floor of their bedroom
The hallway
Mom, hard at work
What did I do?

I discovered an old bone buried in the backyard at Grandma and Grandpa's and just wanted to be sure I shared it with them. They will be home on Thursday and I thought they'd like a little surprise in their bed. Too bad Mom cleaned it all up and didn't even leave a trace of my kind gesture. What a party pooper!

Homemade dog treats!

Just a week ago we went to the Doggie Street Festival and thank god we did because Mom walked away with a recipe for Peanut Butter Puppy Poppers, a truly delicious treat! Thanks to the Shelter Island Veterinary Hospital for the recipe and cute cookie cutter.

So here is what you need:
  • 2 cups flour (any kind will work -- whole wheat, rice, etc.)
  • 1 tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 cup peanut butter (this seemed like a lot so mom did 3/4 cup peanut butter and 1/4 cup honey for sweetness but I supposed they would be fine without the honey too)
  • 1 cup milk (someone had "accidentally" poured out our milk *ahem, DAD!!* so mom used water and it was fine)
You will want to start by pre-heating the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, in a large bowl begin by combining the flour and baking powder. In a smaller bowl mix the peanut butter and milk. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well.

Place the dough on a lightly floured surface (Mom used a cutting board) and knead. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness and use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes.

We found that the cookies were good both thick and thin. Thick ones puffed up a little more, like soft biscuits, and the thinner ones were more like a crunchy snack. Both were very good!

Bake for 20 minutes on a greased backing sheet until lightly brown.

Cool on a rack, then store in an airtight container. Be careful not to overcook because the cookies burn easily.

Happy baking!

My Weekend

I was lucky enough to spend the whole weekend with Grandma and Grandpa while Mom and Dad were gallivanting around Lake Tahoe. Here's what I was up to:

First I finished off a ball I found in the neighbor's yard
That was pretty exhausting so I took a nap.
The next day I visited the Little Italy Mercato which was so much fun! Plenty of friends to meet and of course, another nap
Finally, I dug up an old bone in the yard. Even I don't know how long that thing has been there.
Luckily I got away from Grandma and Grandpa quick enough that I was able to hide it again. The adventure continues!

Co-sleeping

I had a VERY busy weekend. Dad went out of town to Las Vegas with a bunch of his guy friends so Ashley and Maddie came over to stay with us! YAY!

On top of having my best dog friend around, my best human friend came into town too. Johnny! He is dad's little brother so technically he is my Uncle but we're so close in age it's more like we are best buds. I am so glad he is back. He never lets me out of his sight and he's the best at holding my bone while I gnaw away. He should be here for the next month or so and he is staying at our house. I am so thrilled I can hardly sit still!!

Finally, after a long weekend of playing with all my best friends I had to collapse down for a nap at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Look who found their way into the bed with me!

Oh and mom apologizes for the very poor photo quality but it was the best she could do from her phone :)

I hope you are enjoying your week and recovering from your weekends too!

It's the Pits

Mom and Dad have long wondered about where I came from and what I am. People stop and ask my parents all the time, "what is he?" Their best answer is "we're not sure, what do you think?" because the truth is that they don't know either!

When Mom and Dad brought me home they were told I was a "German Shepherd mix" though I don't know how true that is. Here I am on my first day home. Do I look like a shepherd pup to you?

I might be part shepherd (given the dark nose and bushy tail) but we've considered a couple of other options as well. Maybe Boxer? Perhaps Ridgeback? Even Pit Bull has been in the mix.

I know what you must all be thinking - Pit Bull? And your mind probably jumped immediately to all the bad things you know about dogs like me. We are vicious, too violent, and mean. We have way too much energy and we bite unexpectedly. We like to fight, thanks to some football player that got too much press for a very bad thing. In truth, you are partially right. Some Pit Bulls are aggressive and some are mean. Some like to fight and some bite. However, those bad boys should not dirty the name of our breed. You can't say we are going to be violent or mean simply based on who our parents are.  I'm not going to say that about you.

In fact, according to testing by The National Canine Temperament Testing Association, the Golden Retriever, Poodle, Border Collie, English Setter, and numerous other breeds are considered more likely to become aggressive than the mix of breeds commonly referred to as Pit Bulls. According to an article by Modern Dog Magazine, "bully breeds" are usually extremely loyal, lovey and often goofy. They are also known for being very good with children and are even referred to as "nanny" dogs in the UK because they are often trusted to look after the children.

I guess my point is that prejudices and generalizations just aren't fair. I am not a violent dog and I have little interest in fighting unless it is with Dad on the floor of the living room trying to get my bone back. I am probably one of the lucky ones. I ended up with parents who love me no matter what I am or where I came from!

One last pic to try changing your mind if I haven't already. What's not to love about such a happy "Pit Bull Smile?"

Vote for me!

Click below to vote for me as San Diego's best pet! Just in case the link does not open directly to my picture I'm on page 5...

You can vote every day so don't forget! If we win Mom and Dad said I could have a new bone and lots of new toys.  I mean, $500 goes a long way, even at Petco!

How could you say no to this face?

My latest antics

You may know that one of my favorite pastimes is hiding my bone. Sometimes I hide it under my bed, sometimes in Mom and Dad's bed, and occasionally I leave it right in the middle of Grandma and Grandpa's living room floor (I still can't figure out how they ALWAYS find it). Here is one of my latest innovations. Mom seemed to find it funny for some reason...

Funny enough that she took two pictures for you...
This was my "why are you laughing crazy lady, I didn't do anything" face

Later that same day I found a piece of brown paper Mom was throwing away but that seemed awfully wasteful so I put it to good use.

Check out the next little series of action pics. Mom just loves that camera.

It kind of looks like I'm smiling but I was definitely showing that paper who is boss. I think it got the message. So how about you? What is your favorite pastime?

Christmas came early!

Look what mom brought home today...a bone as big as I am!!!
Forget Santa, this is all I need this year. Well, and maybe one more once I'm done with this one...
