My baby shower!

Hello friends...You may remember a few months back when I announced I'm getting a little sibling. I'm excited to announce his name will be Lukas and we will be the best of friends. In preparation for my his coming arrival Mom and Dad have been doing a lot of stuff around the house. It's been a little unsettling to be honest, but that's a completely separate post...

What has actually been fun is all of the presents they keep getting for me. Ok most of them are for Lukas but many people have included gifts for me, the BIG brother, especially the nice folks at Pit Bull Rescue San Diego. Mom has been volunteering with them for a few years and last night at her leadership meeting they threw her a surprise baby shower. It must have been really fun because she hasn't shut up about it since!

While Lukas got plenty of onesies, socks, and blankets (boring!), Mom got some really cute doggie related items too. Those nice ladies know how to shop ;)

First up, the cutest most adorable stuffed animal that Mom will never let me play with. *sigh* I mean I kind of get it, it's really cute and we don't want to wreck it but man would it feel good to carry around in my mouth. Maybe when she's not looking...

Thank you Alicia!

Isn't he cute? Well of course he is - he looks just like me! Alicia ordered him from this adorable Etsy shop called scooterandgoose who created him based on a few pictures of me. He even has my crooked ear!

The ear theme continues with the William Beach Hoodie from Hendrick Boards, a great lightweight sweatshirt for Mom. This one wasn't designed with me specifically in mind but it practically could have been. Tell me that doesn't look like me and my silhouette! The image is actually based on the founder's dog - a rescue Chihuahua-Pit Bull mix named William whom you can read more about here.

Thanks Amy!

I also got a nice chewy rope toy and a great bandana which I will be wearing when Lukas finally comes home to play with me.

I'd say I'm enjoying this whole baby thing so far :)

Training: The Tools

You may remember my post a few months ago about mom's training plan to make me a runner. Well, it's been a slow but steady process. The holidays hit, the in-laws came into town, the parentals went on a vacation, and let's just say the running isn't *quite* what we hoped it would be. Nevertheless we're keeping at it as best we can...

One of the best things Mom bought for running is The Buddy System. It's basically a belt that clips around her waist and then has a clip from the belt to my harness (as the leash). A few great perk:

1. Mom doesn't have to hold the leash so that she can still pump those arms!
2. I will stay close-by (dang it!)
3. The part of the leash that is on Mom's belt is not sewn in so when I get the random urge to run this way or that, I can just swing right around her and she just keeps going. And going...and going.

It basically looks like this:

Our only complaint? The "reflective" band on the leash and belt are actually quite pointless.  After just a couple of times of adjusting it, the dang stuff comes right off!

Mom tried her very best to take some pictures while we were actually using the fancy leash but apparently those turned out like this:
And like this:
So instead we will steal borrow a more professional picture from The Buddy System site:
You get the idea now right?

Usually by the end of the run I look something like this.
A little tired, very thirsty and smiling from ear to ear!
Our first big run is this Sunday, January 15 at the Walk, Run, Wag 5K in Del Mar. Come out and cheer us on! Mom says Pit Bull Rescue San Diego will be out there too with some of their adorable puppies. I mean, who doesn't love puppies?

Friday Fun

It's National Dog Week and you didn't think I was actually going to let that pass by without mention did you? National Dog Week was started right before the Great Depression with a few simple goals:
  1. A good home for every dog.
  2. Elimination of stray dogs from the street
  3. Better-informed dog owners
  4. Consideration for dogs and all animals
  5. Emphasis of the dog’s use as companion and protector
  6. Fair laws for dogs and dog owners
  7. Respect for the rights of non-dog owners
In our efforts to help #1 and #2 Mom and I are bringing you a selection of local dogs whom YOU can adopt and contribute to National Dog Week. This is also Friday Fun and really, what could be more fun than bringing a dog into your life?

First up are the dogs nearest and dearest to Mom's heart, the ones with Pit Bull Rescue San Diego.

Aren't they cute? Mom's met many of them and says they are very nice doggies. You can also find many other kinds of dogs at the local shelters. Check out these loves:

Right now the San Diego shelters have lowered their fee to just $25 for all adoptions! Only $25??? That's a great deal when you figure you're getting your new best friend in return!!!

Even if you're not quite ready to bring home a new friend this week, consider sponsoring a local dog through a rescue, volunteer your time as a dog walker at a local shelter, or donate toys and food to a worthy group. What a great way to celebrate National Dog Week :)
