It's been a busy couple of days

Mom and Dad took a little vacation last weekend and I got to spend some quality time with my Uncle Matt, my GGpa Bob and my GGma Norma.

A little mid-afternoon contemplation
At the end of it all I was completely exhausted, badly enough that I couldn't even find it in myself to avoid Mom when she wanted to do this:

"Fine, take the picture. Just humiliate me for your own enjoyment."
Luckily the novelty wore off quickly and she let me get my beauty rest.
How was your weekend?

Where have we been?

See here's the thing about writing a dog blog...I have to get Mom's help to write it! I've had all these GREAT ideas but somebody has been too busy to be of any use. She seems to think that things like being in the busiest time of the year at work, studying for the LSAT and getting into a car accident are valid excuses for completely abandoning my writing career. For shame!

Well, a lot has happened since my Mom decided she liked a lot of things better than me so I won't try and shove them all down your throat at once. One thing at a time my friends...

First, if you follow us on Instagram you probably remember this adorable picture of me in my big, giant bed. If you don't follow us on Instagram...well then you should. Look us up @littlerockfish or just check out my pics by searching for #jacksblog.

Ok back to my story. This bed is To. Die. For. It's so perfectly soft without being too squishy, it has these great bolsters on the sides that I can cuddle up against, and it was only $40 at Costco. Everyone wins!

Considering I'm a 65-pound mutt and I still have thaaat much room to move around, you can tell it's a pretty big bed. Look, it's even big enough to share with your best friend!

What have you been up to since I've been gone? What is your new favorite thing?

Who needs a bed?

In my house, I have three dog beds (plus the outside couch I've claimed). However, these days I'm doing this cool thing where I lay near my bed but not really on it...

What, is that weird?

Holidays are for napping

What is better than a nap on a holiday? Perhaps a nap with all of your family at once?
Happy birthday Martin Luther King, Jr.! In your honor, I am going back to sleep now...

Happy Howl-O-Ween!!

Dad jokes with me all the time, "Jack, when are you gonna get a job?" Usually I just meet him with a blank stare but today I was lucky enough to go to work -- with mom! I got to be the Scooby-Doo to her Daphne!! Check us out:

National University System Headquarters in La Jolla :)
Mom even made me my very own Scooby-Doo tag!
I got to see Aunt Ashley as a hippie...
...and meet Brittany the kitty cat
I growled at this guy in the hall...oops! He was scary!
I quickly learned that if I sat and stared at mom she had treats in her bag for me!
I finally had enough bully sticks, play time and schmoozing that I needed a break.
Check me out all comfy in Mom's cubicle
I'm not sure why you humans complain about work all the time because I had a blast! Thanks to Grandma for picking me up at dropping me off at home too -- three hours was just about my limit for the office.

Tonight we're hosting some of Mom and Dad's friends for Monday Night Football. Stay tuned, I will have plenty more pics after that! Stay safe tonight :)

Crate training

Look who is warming up to the idea of crate training! Aren't we cute, sleeping side by side?

Passed out hard after plenty of playtime:
Someday she will be big enough to enjoy a nice fluffy bed like me!

Mom is thankful that Kayna is sleeping in a crate too. Less to worry about leads to much more restful sleep!

Sunday Runday?

Dear Mom,

I am glad you had a nice run this afternoon. It seemed to energize you and give you strength for the rest of the day. Me on the other hand...

Let's just say even having two extra legs didn't help me today! A nap never felt so good...

Co-sleeping

I had a VERY busy weekend. Dad went out of town to Las Vegas with a bunch of his guy friends so Ashley and Maddie came over to stay with us! YAY!

On top of having my best dog friend around, my best human friend came into town too. Johnny! He is dad's little brother so technically he is my Uncle but we're so close in age it's more like we are best buds. I am so glad he is back. He never lets me out of his sight and he's the best at holding my bone while I gnaw away. He should be here for the next month or so and he is staying at our house. I am so thrilled I can hardly sit still!!

Finally, after a long weekend of playing with all my best friends I had to collapse down for a nap at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Look who found their way into the bed with me!

Oh and mom apologizes for the very poor photo quality but it was the best she could do from her phone :)

I hope you are enjoying your week and recovering from your weekends too!

I play hard!

I haven't written in so long!!! I can't blame it all on mom really, it's just that I've been so busy with trips to the park, the beach, and so much more. Today I have a picture and a video from a recent trip to the park. I played so hard and long that by the time mom and dad were ready to leave I couldn't even walk! Check it out:

Mom seems to think it's hilarious but I just didn't have any energy left! It's tough being a dog!

Sleep from a dog's perspective

Now I've written to you all before about the joys of sleeping here. I know you humans don't always understand the ways we dogs sleep so let me give you some examples of my favorites:

This is how I sleep in the backseat of the car
squished between mom and Grandma...

This is how Maddie and I pass out under the bed
after a long day of playing...
This is how I slept to show mom I was
outgrowing my bed and needed a new one...
This is how I sleep with Dad...
Oops, looks like I caught mom taking the picture!
Dad didn't flinch though...
This is how I nap with mom during Charger games...
My Uncle Matt says I look like a cat in this one...
A modified version of the one above...this one means
"turn out the light, it's too early!!"
Of course, spread eagle is always a great option...
And finally, my newest trick...sneaking into Mom and Dad's bed
when they are busy doing other things! I blend well between the pillows right?
How about you? Where/how do you like to sleep?

Here's what I really think of running...

Just about once a week my mom and Aunt Chelsea take me for a nice long run around Miramar Lake. It’s exactly five miles and I really enjoy it. It is a fun people-watching (and dog-watching) activity and it makes me nice and tired for the next day or two!

This past week (last Friday), my mom had a day off for Independence Day. YAY! I love when she gets more time off to spend with me. :) She and Aunt Chelsea decided to take me on my run that day, in the morning around 10am. Whew was it hot outside already! They brought me my own little water dish though so I was up for it. As is typical, I wore myself out by mile 2 but I hung in there, knowing I had little choice but to stick it out since it is shorter to just finish than to try and turn around.

Unfortunately Aunt Chelsea (the motivated one in this whole operation) had the *brilliant* idea to continue past that wonderful 5 mile marker and do an extra mile! WHAT?! Let’s just say I was having none of that and I made this very clear when I simply planted my feet, dug in hard and laid down, right in the middle of the walkway! Check me out:

All the people walking by laughed at me and thought I was pretty amusing but I was just tired and mortified at the thought that we might be going around again. Most people sympathized though and one man told me he felt the same way. I had some water and laid in the shade for a while and then I dragged the crazy humans back to the car before they got any more wacko ideas.

I sure taught them a few things!
