Friday Fun

It's National Dog Week and you didn't think I was actually going to let that pass by without mention did you? National Dog Week was started right before the Great Depression with a few simple goals:
  1. A good home for every dog.
  2. Elimination of stray dogs from the street
  3. Better-informed dog owners
  4. Consideration for dogs and all animals
  5. Emphasis of the dog’s use as companion and protector
  6. Fair laws for dogs and dog owners
  7. Respect for the rights of non-dog owners
In our efforts to help #1 and #2 Mom and I are bringing you a selection of local dogs whom YOU can adopt and contribute to National Dog Week. This is also Friday Fun and really, what could be more fun than bringing a dog into your life?

First up are the dogs nearest and dearest to Mom's heart, the ones with Pit Bull Rescue San Diego.

Aren't they cute? Mom's met many of them and says they are very nice doggies. You can also find many other kinds of dogs at the local shelters. Check out these loves:

Right now the San Diego shelters have lowered their fee to just $25 for all adoptions! Only $25??? That's a great deal when you figure you're getting your new best friend in return!!!

Even if you're not quite ready to bring home a new friend this week, consider sponsoring a local dog through a rescue, volunteer your time as a dog walker at a local shelter, or donate toys and food to a worthy group. What a great way to celebrate National Dog Week :)

I'm kind of a big deal

You may remember a few weeks ago when I posted a sneak peek of a big surprise which I'm finally ready to reveal! The bright lights, exquisite set, and professional photographers were perfect to bring out the best in me. Check it out!

I'd like to think it is the start of my modeling and acting career, I mean, you never know who might be reading...right?!

Mike and T from Oh My Dog! Photography were great to work with. They let me play with the tennis ball, run around their studio and eat plenty of yummy treats. They have a special touch with pups like me and they gave me plenty of time to show off my tricks too. In just 45 minutes they got so many good shots, it is hard to even pick favorites!

Best of all I got to take some pictures with Mom and Dad, my two favorite humans! You have to admit I kind of steal focus but they look ok too.

Don't worry, I won't forget you little people when I'm a big star. Oh, I think that's my agent calling, gotta go!

The Happy Dog's Bedtime Prayer

Whoa flashback! I was just a baby here!

“Now I lay me down to sleep,
The queen-size bed is soft and deep.
I sleep right in the center groove,
My human being can hardly move.
I’ve trapped her legs,
She’s tucked in tight,
And here is where I shall pass the night.
No one disturbs me or dares intrude,
Till morning comes and I want food.
I sneak up slowly and it begins,
My nibbles on my human’s chin.
She wakes up slowly and smiles and shouts,
“You darling beast! Just cut it out!”
But mornings here and its time to play,
I always seem to get my way.
So thank you Lord, for giving me,
This human person that I see.
The one who holds me tight,
And shares her bed with me at night!”

Doggelganger

You know how they say people start to look like their pets? Well what if you just started off with a pet that looked like you? The Pedigree Adoption Drive has introduced "Doggelganger" which allows you to upload a photo of yourself, run some fancy software over it, and spits out a picture of an adoptable dog that has similar features to yours (and is available for adoption!).

Mom thought she'd try it on herself and on Dad first and here are their results:

What do you think? Did they get it close?

There are only a few bugs in the system. The page itself can be a little tricky to use because you have to line up the face *just* right with the software or it won't let you move forward. After a bit of playing with it you'll figure it out and it's fun/funny to see what comes out. However, it doesn't seem to let you specify what area of the country you are in to actually find a dog near you. It's a fun toy nonetheless!

Give it a try and leave me a comment below. Which dog do you look like?

Barksters Krisps

Mom was contacted a few weeks back about trying a new dog treat called Barksters Krisps and I immediately told her it sounded like a great idea. What's not to love? Free treats? Count us in!

In fact, I was so excited to try the new yummies that I couldn't wait for Mom to open them, I helped myself!!

I was able to get through the outside package but they made the inside plastic bag dog-proof. Dang it! Once Mom showed off with her opposable thumbs I was finally able to enjoy the deliciousness. We tried two different kinds, Brown Rice & Beef and Sweet Potato & Chicken. I preferred the Sweet Potato and Chicken but both were very good. I even shared with Lilah on a recent camping trip. They are super crunchy and the texture is kind of like human potato chips. Mmmm!!!

Little Italy Farmer's Market

It's a little known fact but my full name is actually Giacomo (pronounced JAWK-a-mo), I just go by Jack for short. Mom was taking Italian courses and fell in love with the name but Dad quickly shot down the idea of ever naming their human child a long, complicated first name especially given the long, complicated last name we all share. Oh well, their loss! I wear the Italian name proudly!

I like to think it helped me blend in a bit at the Little Italy Farmer's Market a few weeks back. When Mom agreed to take Lilah for the day, we knew that an adventure was necessary so we called Grandma and Uncle Matt to make a day of it! In the car I wasn't too sure of where we were going but Lilah was ready to take the wheel.

We had a blast! Plenty of fresh produce, breads, juices and flowers. From Little Italy Association of San Diego site, "The Little Italy Mercato is the city market for downtown San Diego residents and visitors with more than 100 booths lining Date Street from Kettner to Union offering farm fresh produce, artisan foods and specialty items."

It was very busy at about 11am. I'd recommend going earlier for a smaller crowd (or if your dog isn't friendly with others...) The market opens at 9am and they're there until 1:30pm!

Oh c'mon Mom, leave me alone...we're in public!!

It was a great way to spend the morning and I'd highly recommend you head down there one Saturday morning with your pups too. You can find more info about the market here, hope to see you there!
